GestureWright
Features

Everything you do with a mouse, done with one hand.

GestureWright watches your hand through the camera you already have, works out which gesture you're making, and moves the pointer or presses the right keys for you.

Pointer

Steady, accurate pointing.

Raise your index finger and the pointer follows your fingertip. Only the middle of the camera picture is used, so you reach every corner of the screen with small, comfortable movements.

  • Smoothing removes shake when you hold still and lag when you move fast.
  • Works near or far from the camera: gestures are measured in palm lengths, not pixels.
  • Prefer more reach or more precision? Change the active area in the settings.
Index finger up

The pointer follows your fingertip.

Clicks and drags

Clicks land where you aim.

Pinch your thumb and index finger to click. The pointer holds still for a fraction of a second as your fingers meet, so the click doesn't drift off target.

  • Two quick pinches make a double-click.
  • Hold the pinch, or move while pinched, to drag. Open your fingers to drop.
  • Thumb to middle finger is a right-click.
Click and right-click

Thumb to index, or thumb to middle finger.

Scroll and switch

Move through pages and desktops.

Raise two fingers and move your hand up or down to scroll. Swipe an open palm sideways to move between desktops. Three fingers shows all your open windows.

  • Mac: switches Spaces and opens Mission Control.
  • Windows: switches virtual desktops and opens Task View.
  • Thumbs up or down changes the volume, and keeps going while you hold it.
Scroll and swipe

Two fingers to scroll, open palm to switch desktops.

Pause

Talk with your hands without clicking things.

Hold a fist for a second and a half and GestureWright stops listening. Do it again to carry on. A notification tells you which state it's in, so there are no surprises.

Fist for 1.5 seconds

Pause or resume gesture control.

Day to day

Set it up once, then forget about it.

Starts on its own

Runs in the background from the moment you sign in. No window to keep open and no icon cluttering your Dock or taskbar.

Recovers by itself

If the camera is busy in a video call it waits and tries again. If anything goes wrong it restarts quietly.

Easy on the battery

Tracks at 30 frames a second while your hand is in view, and drops to 8 when it isn't.

Calibration view

Open Calibrate camera to see exactly what GestureWright sees: your hand's skeleton, the active area and the gesture it recognises.

Either hand

Works with your left or right hand out of the box, or can be set to listen to only one.

Mac and Windows

macOS 11 or later on Apple chip or Intel Macs, and Windows 10 or 11.

Make it yours

Change what each gesture does.

Every setting lives in one plain text file. Point a swipe at any keyboard shortcut, turn on media keys, adjust how sensitive pinching is, or make the pointer snappier.

Actions you can use: any shortcut (hotkey:…), volume_up, volume_down, volume_mute, media_play_pause, media_next, media_prev.

Under the hood

Built to feel steady.

Hand tracking uses Google's MediaPipe. A background service written in Go keeps it running, and a small C++ library moves the pointer through each system's own input layer.
